I like to gently try to pull up the border of the veneer with my fingertip, just to run into if it is loose.

Chipped Wood Veneer

If it comes up hands, then I lift the edge up and let it chip off.

Yous don't want to skip this stride, and find out later on you repaired the chipped expanse, that more of the veneer is chipping off right where you repaired it!

**Afterward you remove the loose veneer, give that expanse a niggling scuff sand with 220 grit sandpaper just to help the wood filler stick ameliorate.

Then just make certain the expanse is clean and dust/chip free!

Footstep Two: Mix Wood Filler

Next, mix up the wood filler.

Yeah, you have to mix it.

But, honestly, this is the best kind of wood filler to fix chipped veneer.

We aren't using just whatsoever blazon of forest filler!

This wood filler is stronger, spreads out easier, and dries way faster than normal wood filler!

So in a well-ventilated area, mix upwards the Bondo forest filler.

Mix the Bondo base of operations and the included hardener together to brand a woods filler that will outset to harden within v-10 minutes.

How to Mix Bondo Wood Filler

  • Scoop the Bondo base onto a slice of paper-thin or scrap piece of wood.
  • Only mix upwards a small amount at a time – this stuff starts to harden FAST!
  • Knead the hardening agent (included when yous purchase Bondo) and eject a niggling flake onto the Bondo base. **Use about a iii-four″ long clasp of hardener for a golf ball size of the base of operations.
  • Mix the base and the hardener together until information technology's one color. (Work fast!)

Can You Use Different Types of Bondo?

Yes! You don't have to use the wood filler version. You can apply the All-Purpose Bondo or this Motorcar Torso Bondo! They all piece of work the same!

The only one that you tin really stain though is the Wood Filler version.

Working quickly, spread the mixed up Bondo woods filler over the damaged area.

You have about 5-x minutes to work with the wood filler, depending on how much hardener to the base of operations you lot mixed together.

Use a Bondo spreader, plastic scraper, or an old gift carte to spread the Bondo around.

I like to overfill the damaged area so and so I can sand it down to flush to the wood around it.

If you don't overfill the area, you'll probably accept to go back with a 2nd layer of Bondo. Who wants to do that?!

Bondo Wood Filler Drying

Step Four: Allow Wood Filler Dry

Later on the wood filler is spread out all over the area that is damaged, it'due south time to permit it dry out.

It takes about 30 minutes for information technology to dry difficult!

Information technology's seriously and so fast!

Step V: Sand Wood Filler Downwardly

Once the Bondo is dry out, bust out the power sander.

(Yeah, you could sand information technology down by manus, but honestly, that will take a fleck. Bondo is decently hard.)

Using 220 grit sandpaper, sand the Bondo wood filler down flush with the rest of the wood around it.

Information technology should but have a minute to become it sanded down smoothen.

Sanded down Bondo Wood Filler

If yous take a lot of information technology to sand off, you can use a more fibroid grit of sandpaper, simply then you'll need to go back over information technology to smoothen out the fibroid texture that is left behind.

If you just apply 220 grit sandpaper, you won't have to sand back over it. And 220 grit volition consume through it pretty well!

Step Six: Paint or Stain

Side by side, you can pigment it or stain information technology!

No 1 volition e'er know that there used to exist damage in that spot!

How to Paint over Bondo
